Work

I suppose I should update you on how my work is going in the library at the college.
Samuel has picked up Dewey very quickly and seems to like organising things which I think will help him to be a good librarian. We are working on a collection management plan and we are going to start weeding the collection. I think 12 dictionaries in the reference section is slightly over doing it and the computer section has books on Lotus 123, wordstar and word perfect...does anyone remember what these were about?
We have made signs and we are working on a guide to the library brochure to help students and teachers find things.
We are also working on the access database to add subject headings to the records and investigating the best options for a library management system.
So, all in all, its going very well and everyone here seems to be happy with the work we are doing.

OMG! Lotus 123, wordstar & wordperfect - hate to admit it but I remember them thar days. (only just though!!!)

Lotus 123 was a (tedious) forerunner of Excel. Wordstar! OMG! I actually painstakingly taught myself how to word process using Wordstar - it has to be THE most complicated system, about 6 different keystroke combinations just to do something simple like 'bold' or 'underline'. Wordperfect was a vast improvement but still a bit complicated compared to Word and its simplicity of commands.

Perhaps they should be kept in the "History" section of the library? :-)

Karyn .. hi, & off topic!!!
Sorry we we missed your farewell from Brighton. Lots happening with Kev & myself ... had to put our (12 y.o.)dog Lottie to sleep a few weeks ago (not unexpected), his (90 y.o.) Mum went from her home to hospital & is now in a nursing home, & we now are owners of her 10 y.o. small but badly behaved dog ... never a dull moment!

Hi Karyn,
It sounds like you're having a real adventure! I can't wait to see the photos.
What's the budget for a new library system? There are free open source ones available now (e.g. OpenBiblio at http://obiblio.sourceforge.net/).
Enjoy the rest of your time in the wild west!
